The Call

When you are constantly living in the present, you never think about what is going to happen next. Sometimes you do not realize how far you have gotten until a moment tells you to look back. Getting the message to be on this set was one of those moments. The designer and producer already had moodboards, hair ideation, and visuals prepared so I was pulled in immediately. After an initial call to discuss details and ask the right questions, it was an easy yes for me.

The Creative Transition

Before shoot day, the three of us connected to align on creative and logistical details through a series of calls. What guided my execution was the feeling the designer wanted people to get from the photos which was confidence and determination. Our model, styled as a representation of Amelia Earhart, needed to look like someone who had been in the thick of fighting for herself. Intentionally drenched and messy was the story.

The Execution

It was a hot day, which meant I had to engineer a look that would survive sweat and movement from call time to wrap. I used a mixture of water and water-based gel to hold the hair in its wet state, so even as it dried throughout the day, the gel maintained the wet-like appearance. These are always the things I think about on set. I read the circumstances and prepare for every variable before the models step out in front of the camera Watching everything come together made me reflect on my journey up to this point. It felt like my skills unlocked a door I did not know would ever exist for me.
